The True Spirit of Christmas

OK so I have what you might call a “soppy confession” to make.

When I see houses decorated in Christmas lights it makes me cry. I keep it myself, as the tears shimmer down my cheeks, I hope that nobody looks at me because they might notice how deeply affected I am by a house decorated in lights.

The symbolic gesture of what they have done by decorating their homes is what moves me tears, all the effort they have gone to, to bring a smile to someone’s face they’ve never met. It perfectly represents what the “Christmas Spirit” truly means.

For me Christmas is not about a celebration of the birth of a man named Jesus. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jesus as a person, but not as a dogma with someone dangling the “only set of keys to heaven’ above my head – no I’m not into that at all.

Believe it or not, Christ is actually a term used for a higher consciousness, one in which the ego (your individuality) joins with the consciousness of the Universe. Like a raindrop falling into the ocean.

Jesus was operating at the highest level of consciousness achievable in a human form, hence the reason he is called Christ. You will find if you ever care to read the Bible, that what is left of what Jesus actually said (which isn’t much once it’s been slanted by another person’s perception of the meaning of his words) is actually beautiful. My favourite is:

Matthew 17:6
“I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you”

Anyway, I’m getting off track.

For me, the true spirit of Christmas lies not in the belief of Santa Clause, nor in presents (although they are nice!)

I believe the true sprit of Christmas is a fundamental belief in the true goodness of mankind.

To believe in the Christmas Spirit is to have faith in humanity.

I have faith that humanity can achieve Christ consciousness en masse. Christ – en masse. Christmas.

So, to all who read this, know that I have faith in you.

Merry Christmas. Happy Humanity.

With Love & Light,

To see the joy our young men and women found in doing something so simple for someone else was awesome.  It really is more blessed to give than to receive.  And I think in doing so they found the true spirit of Christmas as well.
